Spencer Street Project Update: The First Roof Complete

We're delighted to announce the completion of the first roof on our Spencer Street project—a significant milestone in what is shaping up to be a fantastic restoration and re-roofing programme.

The completed roof is one of four substantial four-hip roofs that form the most technically demanding part of the project. With this first phase now successfully finished, our team will continue with the remaining three larger roofs before progressing onto the more straightforward lower-level properties.

Combining Traditional Materials with Modern Craftsmanship

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been preserving the original character of the building while ensuring it is protected for decades to come.

This roof has been completed using reclaimed Welsh slate, a material renowned for its exceptional durability, timeless appearance, and outstanding performance in the British climate. Welsh slate has protected homes across the UK for generations, and when carefully selected and installed, it offers one of the longest-lasting roofing solutions available.

All leadwork has been completed using Code 5 lead, providing robust weather protection around the roof's critical junctions while ensuring the highest standards of workmanship and longevity.

We're also pleased to have retained and reused almost all of the original hips and ridge tiles. Wherever possible, we believe in preserving original architectural features, and by carefully restoring and reusing these elements, we've maintained the property's character while reducing unnecessary waste. It's an approach that combines traditional roofing practices with responsible, sustainable craftsmanship.

Built for the British Weather

A roof is a property's first line of defence against the elements, and in the UK, that's no small task.

From persistent winter rain and strong winds to freezing temperatures, summer heatwaves, and everything in between, our roofs have to withstand an incredible range of weather conditions throughout the year. Every detail matters—from the quality of the slate and leadwork to the precision of the installation.

Taking the time to complete every stage correctly ensures the roof not only looks exceptional but also performs as it should, protecting the building for many years to come.

A Project We're Proud Of

We're incredibly pleased with how this first roof has turned out. The finished result reflects the care, attention to detail, and craftsmanship that our team brings to every project, regardless of its size or complexity.

As work continues across Spencer Street, we'll be sharing regular updates so you can follow the progress from start to finish. There are still three major roofs to complete before we move on to the remaining properties, and we're looking forward to showcasing each stage of the transformation.

A Thank You to Our Team

Finally, we'd like to recognise the hard work and dedication of everyone on site.

Recent weeks have provided a real reminder of how unpredictable British weather can be. Whether working through heavy rainfall or enduring soaring summer temperatures, our teams have continued to deliver workmanship of an exceptional standard while maintaining the professionalism and attention to detail that we're proud to be known for.

Their commitment, resilience, and pride in their work make projects like this possible, and their efforts certainly don't go unnoticed.

The first roof is complete, but there's plenty more to come. We look forward to sharing the next stages of the Spencer Street project as work continues.
